Importance of knowing many languages

When you are confined in your place in your entire life, you might not feel the need to learn new languages. You are already satisfied of the fact that you get to express your thoughts and communicate with other people without any problem at all.

However, you also have to realize that time will come that you will no longer be confined to that place again. You will grow, go out and explore your options. Now, what if you are given the chance to work in other countries? What if you are suddenly given a job where you have to handle people who are not well versed with the language that you know? This is where you will start learning new languages and adopt with the new situation. Yet, isn't it too late? You have to realize that your brain is just like sponge. It just keeps on absorbing information as you grow older. However, time will come that your brain will no longer be as functional as it is now. It will no longer be as free as an empty sponge. It will be full!

Therefore, if possible, you have to learn as early as you can. Learning a new language will take time. It does not happen overnight. Yet, if you spend some time in learning it, for sure, you will really get to it in no time. You will then realize that learning a new language is way easier than what you think of. In fact, you will find it a perfect way to kill the time without necessarily wasting it. Who knows? You might meet someone along the way who can't speak your language but you know exactly the language that he or she speaks.

Of course, you are living in a borderless world. This is the time when you can just go out and meet other people all over the world. This is no longer the time when opportunities are just confined to your own country. Thus, you must not waste the moment and seize the opportunity wherever it may be. Again, you will never be certain of the place. Yet, if you have the knowledge of their language, it will then be easier for you to deal with the new culture. More than that, if you are making business transactions with these people, you will certainly avoid being fooled. You know their language and you will know what they want to convey right in front of you.

To top it all, even if you do not make use of the language for business purposes, at least you can make use of the language to make friends and socialize. If one day you have decided to visit that country, you will certainly make use of the language when you are on the street. You also have to target a language that is spoken in many countries. This includes Chinese, Spanish, French, Portuguese and even Malay. Again, you might not find it useful by now. However, soon you will just know how good your move to learn is.
